Geelong-Korea will be aiming to dent Canberra’s playoff hopes when the sides square off in round six Brut Australian Baseball League action.
GK produced its best series result of the season last weekend, splitting their four-game set with Auckland to damage the Tuatara’s chances of reaching the playoffs.
Geelong-Korea can do the same to the Cavs in the nation’s capital this weekend.
Canberra is 2.5 games back from second-placed Brisbane – and a guaranteed playoff berth – in the North-East Division.
The Cavs sit a game back from Adelaide in the hunt for the ABL’s first wildcard spot.
GK have recalled outfielder Dong-Gyun Woo and 18-year-old relief pitcher Hwi Kwon.
Woo is 2-for-12 (.167) in six games while Kwon holds a 10.93 ERA through seven appearances.
Ji-Woong Park is out of manager Dae-Sung Koo’s team for the series, putting additional strain on Geelong-Korea’s struggling pitching.
GK sit last in the ABL with an ERA of 8.08 and have allowed a league-high 32 homers.
But they showed promising signs against Auckland.
Geelong-Korea allowed just three runs across Saturday’s doubleheader.
But either side allowed 10 and 11 runs in losses.
Canberra has added David Kandilas and Lee Mills to its roster.
Kandilas will be hoping to regain his 2017/18 form, which saw him finish atop the league with 44 RBI.
The outfielder is currently hitting .102 with two RBI in 14 games.
